Rice Donations Needed for the Rainbow Rice Table!

August 24, 2026 by NPC Admin

NPC’s beloved rainbow rice table is running low on rice! We’re looking for donations of rice (undyed or dyed) to replenish the rice table for the upcoming playgroup season. 20-25 lb bags are the most helpful – it takes about 40 lbs of rice to fill the rice table!

Want to dye the rice yourself at home? Fill a baking tray with plain white rice (brown or any unhulled rice will not work for dyeing), then add a few drops of food dye to 1 Tbsp of white vinegar. More drops of dye = stronger color. Pour the vinegar mixture onto half of the rice and mix thoroughly until all of the liquid is absorbed. Repeat if you need more dye to cover the rice. Choose another color for the other half of the tray and follow the same instructions. Let the rice dry for a few hours or overnight, and pour into a ziplock bag.

We’re looking for enough rice to refill the table, as well as extra rice to replenish the table as it gets used through the year. Thank you!
